Our first stop in Belize was Las Palapas on the beautiful island of Caye Caulker—and it absolutely set the tone for the trip. With the island motto being “Go Slow,” this was the perfect place to kick back, soak in the ocean breeze, and enjoy some incredible food.
🍛 Curry Seafood – 8/10 The standout dish of the night. Locally sourced shrimp and fish were simmered in a rich coconut curry with onions and peppers, served alongside fragrant coconut cilantro rice, perfectly grilled vegetables, and ripe plantains. The flavors were bold, fresh, and totally comforting—Belizean home-cooking at its finest.
🍤🥩 Reef & Beef – 8/10 Shrimp sautéed in garlic butter paired with a juicy, grilled beef tenderloin—this was a satisfying combo for surf & turf lovers. The grilled veggies and creamy mashed potatoes rounded out the plate beautifully.
🍌 Caramelized Plantains – 8/10 Sweet, gooey, and golden perfection. A simple dessert done very well. It hit the spot after the spice of the curry. Loved the cinnamon sticks!
🍹 Cocktails – Fruity, refreshing, and exactly what you want on a tropical island.
💰 Prices were very reasonable (listed in Belizean dollars, so divide by 2 for USD). Most entrees came out to ~$20-30 USD for good portions and local seafood.
🌴 Ambiance – 8/10 A lovely sit-down spot perfect for family dinners or a relaxed meal with friends. Warm service and a chill Caye Caulker vibe made it even better.
Final Verdict: 8/10 overall – Highly recommend if you’re looking to dive into authentic Belizean flavors in a relaxed, island setting.
